Vale Roger Smith and Don Keogh

It is with great sadness the Newstead Tennis and Squash Centre advises of the death of two of our Centre’s members.
Don Keogh and Roger Smith.
Our thoughts and condolences go out to their family and friends.

Don Keogh (NTSC Life Member)
Don passed away on 27/1/22 at the age of 95 years.
Not many of you will have known Don, but he served on the Committee in the 1960’s and early 1970’s and also acted as Club Manager in that time.
After a stint in Queensland, he once again volunteered his services as bar manager for about a year in the mid 1990’s, prior to Robbie Carrick’s appointment.
He was awarded a Life Membership for his services in 2001 and was a regular visitor to the club to catch up with mates over a beer.

Roger Smith (Current NTSC Committee Member)
Roger passed away last night after a 10 month battle with liver cancer.
Those that knew Roger admired his determination in his fight with the disease.
He had a passion for squash and always loved being included in our rosters even thought he was our oldest player.
His generosity in donating a perpetual trophy for the most improved squash player will be a permanent reminder of his love and passion for squash at the Centre. In September this year, despite his illness he put up his hand to join the NTSC Committee and to share with the other members his vast business and personal experience, something which was greatly appreciated during this short time.

We have lost two fine gentlemen.
